He was born in Dexter, Maine, on October 21, 1955, the son of James and Meredith (Killam) Hicks. He graduated from Skowhegan Area High School with the class of 1974. In 1980, he married Sue Chambers, the love of his life, and together they raised two children.

He was very proud of his childrens accomplishments: Brents dirt bike racing through the years and Aprils completion of dental hygiene school. Royce especially enjoyed the outdoors and his home on the pond. He hunted, fished and loved to go target shooting and reload his own ammunition, but his true passion was the freedom of riding his beloved Harley.

During his working years he worked at Maine Fence Company, Ethan Allen Company and Frank Woodworth Construction. He was self-employed for a number of years working in the woods and running a sawmill with his father. He enjoyed spending his Friday nights playing BINGO at the Night Drifters Snowmobile Club where he was a member for several years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Susan Hicks of Plymouth; son, Brent Hicks of Newport; daughter, April Curry and husband Ryan of Etna; mother, Meredith Hicks of both Detroit and Richmond, Virginia; sister, Bonnie German of Richmond, Virginia; nephew, Jesse German and fiance April Steber of Richmond, VA; his faithful Golden Retriever, Dusty; brothers-in-law, Donnie Chambers and wife Lisa of Hartland, Tommy Chambers and Joe Chambers, both of Detroit; and a special cousin, Rossie Hicks and wife Bobbie of Plymouth.

He was predeceased by his father, James Hicks.

The family would like to make special mention of Tim and Trish Roussin, the owners of East Newport Grocery, who befriended Royce and gave him his independence by taking his special orders and personally hand delivering them to him in his truck for the last two years. Thank you.

Royces whit and keen sense of humor will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Night Drifters Snowmobile Club, 98 Troy Road, in Detroit, with Rev. Al Worden officiating. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Detroit Village Cemetery, Route 220, in Detroit, where he will be laid to rest with his father.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Royces memory to Sue Hicks, 1123 Ward Hill Road, Plymouth, Maine, 04969, to establish a fund to give out scholarships for hunter safety courses for youth in the local area.
