He was born on May 24, 1939, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, the son of Bernard and Gertrude (Banning) Gaffney Sr. He attended Middletown High School and married Anita Tibbetts on December 12, 1999. Ben liked spending time with his best friend Billy both playing their guitars and going fishing. He enjoyed playing chess and studying the Bible. He is survived by his wife, Anita Gaffney of Pittsfield; children, Sheri, Benjamin, Christine and Marilyn; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Paul Gaffney and Francis Gaffney; friend, former wife and mother of his children, Joyce Gaffney; mother-in-law, Vondalee Tibbetts; sisters-in-law, Regina Odell and husband, David and Norma Smith and her son, Justin; and special friends, Billy Seward, Ruthie Winslow, Donny Barriault and Jimmy Seward.
