Palmyra-Wayne G. Small, 73, died peacefully, Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his home in Palmyra.

Wayne was born on May 30, 1937, in Pittsfield, Maine, the son of Dorian and Evelyn (Charity) Small.  He was a 1955 graduate of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield.

He was employed for many years at the local shoe shops and in later years became a self employed dairy and poultry farmer.  He was a hard worker and enjoyed all aspects of farming.  He raised rabbits, chickens and cows.  His family had a vegetable stand in the summer and sold Christmas trees and wood in the winter.  He was very handy and mechanically talented and could fix just about anything.

He is survived by his five children; Carol Davis and her friend, Joe Lee, of Bucksport, Allen Small and his wife, Patti, of Palmyra, Raymond Small and his wife, Bonny, of Canaan, Fred Small of Palmyra and Dorian Small of Phoenix, Arizona; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his siblings, Richard Small and his wife, Chris, of San Antonio, Texas, Wilfred Small and his wife, Joan, of Palmyra, Barbara Pomeroy and her husband, Earl, of Batavia, Ohio and Janet McGowan and her husband, Terry, of Raymond, Maine and Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife, Violet Marie Small; his brother, David Small; 2 grandsons, Scott Davis and Dustin Small.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 16, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 152, in Hartland.
