Obituary:

Sonoma, California- Ray Lewis Herrick, 75, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at his brother, Don’s residence on July 19, 2010. Ray was born on April 3, 1935, in Kentfield, California, to Barney and Florence Herrick and moved to Sonoma when he was four years old.  He was a long time automobile mechanic and pilot, who restored two planes.  His two main passions were restoring hot rods and working in his shop (on various projects). He belonged to various car clubs and enjoyed going out regularly with his best friend, Glenn, and his buddies. “Ray Bird” (as he was affectionately called) went back East a lot to hang out with his favorite cousin and friend, Pamela.

Ray is survived by his two sons, Ray Herrick and Robert Herrick and his wife, Troyce; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three brothers; David Herrick and his wife, Diane, Don Herrick and his wife, Georgia, and Merle Herrick and his wife, Michelle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and “deer” friends (as he feed many deer daily in the hills around his house).

Family and friends are forever indebted to Ray’s sister-in-law, Georgia Herrick, for her thoughtful and diligent care of Ray during his illness.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010, at the Harmony Baptist Church, 20 High Street, Harmony, Maine with the Rev. Harold Wheeler officiating. Ray will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Sugar Hill Cemetery, in Harmony, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations to be made to the Devil’s Darlings Car Club, P.O Box 1954, Sonoma, CA 95476, in Ray’s honor
