Obituary for Melissa L. Scamman

ST. ALBANS-Melissa L. Scamman, 48, died peacefully on July 10, 2019, at her home in St. Albans, Maine, after a brave battle with cancer.

Melissa was born on September 1, 1971, in Bangor, Maine, a daughter of Dana Roberts and Mary Connor Roberts. She graduated from Searsport High School with the class of 1989 and earned her associates degree from Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor. She was employed as a paramedic and worked for several establishments, including Capital Ambulance, Sebasticook Valley Hospital and Redington-Fairview Hospital. She had also volunteered for the towns of Hartland, St. Albans and Orrington.

Melissa was compassionate, strong and capable. Giving herself to others was not only part of her occupation but part of who she was. She enjoyed working in her gardens and had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved Dachshund, Sasha, and her precious Catahoula, Patch. She loved her family above all and enjoyed spending time together.

She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Kenneth Scamman of St. Albans; her daughters: Jennifer Hedman and husband Chad of Palmyra and Makayla Scamman of St. Albans; her precious grandchildren: Anna, Keira and Gabriel; her mother, Mary Roberts and stepfather Gary of Searsport; siblings: Kelly Roberts of Daytona Beach, FL, Shaun Roberts and husband Matthew Guilford of Brooklyn, NY, Suzie Phillips and husband Benjamin of Orrington, Gary Roberts of Searsport and Lisa Roberts of Colorado; and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as special longtime friend, Marylou Gaucher of Eddington.

She was predeceased by her father, Dana Roberts.

A private gathering will be held by her family.
