Obituary for Ronald D. Race

PITTSFIELD-Ronald D. Race, 77, died on Monday, September 2, 2019, in Pittsfield.

Ron was born on January 21, 1942, in Clifford Township, Pennsylvania, a son of Russell and Dorothy Race. He graduated from Endicott High School in New York and proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He met his soul mate, Marilyn Wilber, in Salem, Massachusetts, at an amusement park. They married in 1963 and settled in Pittsfield in 1985. They shared 56 years together.

Ron enjoyed his work. He did auto mechanics for Volkswagens, worked quality control for AT&T, and was a truck driver. He liked tinkering on all electronics, had fun target practicing and enjoyed painting and drawing….he was really quite good!

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Race of Pittsfield; 3 children: Patricia White and husband James of Guilford, James Race of Troy, and Jeffrey Race of Waterville; 4 grandchildren: Joshua and wife Shyila, Jacob, Haleigh and companion Matt, and Shane; one great grandson, Harold; and a special cousin, Linda Newell and companion Stanley.

He was predeceased by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
