Obituary for Louise D. Humphrey

HARTLAND – Louise Dorothy Humphrey, 85, passed away on May 30, 2019, at Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center, where she had lived for the past two years.

She was born in East Corinth, Maine, on September 4, 1933, the daughter of Robert Berry and Dorothy (Blanchard) Wentworth. She had a very special stepfather, Edson Wentworth.

Louise graduated from Nokomis Regional High School in 1973, the same year as her daughter did. She was very proud of this accomplishment. She met Reggie Humphrey in November 1951 and they were married two months later. They lived in Palmyra most of their 62 years together and had three children.

Reggie and Louise opened their home and hearts caring for foster children for over 18 years. This was a responsibility that they both took great pride in. In later years, Louise went back to school and earned her CNA. She worked at Sebasticook Valley Hospital and then did residential home health and traveled all over central Maine. After that she worked in the home health field as an administrator. She retired at the age of 73.

Louise enjoyed crafting, gardening and most of all spending time with her family. She never missed a family outing or event. She went to all the events and games that her grandchildren participated in, and a few of Chase’s hockey games despite the cold. Her granddaughter’s friends all knew her. Her granddaughters would say “look at my Gram, isn’t she cute”. She was always there when her family needed a helping hand and gave of herself gladly. She so enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels when she was living at Sanfield.

Louise is survived by her daughter, Louise Barden and husband David of St. Albans, son, Reginald H. Humphrey, Jr. of South Portland and daughter, Melissa Sinclair of Corinna; four granddaughters: Julie Thornton and companion Randy Briggs of Newburgh, Michelle Grant and husband Korey of Carmel, Abigail Sinclair and Irene “Louise” Sinclair, both of Corinna; and two “special” great-grandchildren, Chase and Bristol.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Reggie Humphrey.

There will be a private celebration of life.
